Meet our Director, Bette Jo Oglesby
Bette Jo, our Director, (who goes by "B.J.") is a highly skilled
musician who has brought "new life" to our chorus. She recently
completed the Barbershop Harmony Society's Director's College,
where she was placed among the most accomplished directors
enrolled. B.J. quickly embraced the 'barbershop style' and is an
enthusiast of our craft. She is both an outstanding director and
gifted voice teacher. The Chorus feels very fortunate to have
her as our Director.
Bette Jo is a graduate of East Carolina University of Music in
Music Education. A past president of the Choral Section of the NC
Music Educators Association, B.J. teaches choral music at New
Bern High School and is Organist at First Baptist Church. Further
studies include organ performances with Duke University Chapel
organist David Arcus. B.J. is co-director of the Craven Messiah
Chorus and has performed in the orchestra as harpsichordist
throughout the twenty-five year history of the New Bern Messiah.
She also served as Director of Music and Organist for Centenary
United Methodist Church from 1980 to 1987.
